it's an idea i've often dreamt about and this post by Emily where they moved their 5 kids into the main bedroom sealed the deal.
so.....
the builders came at 7:30am (hok!) this morning to begin building a hallway so that the bathroom and loo won't exit straight off the bedroom as it currently does (it was originally a "rumpus room" - i think? - with a bar and entertainment-type area when we bought it)
it's pretty exciting...
especially being allowed to come inside with your boots on and not get in trouble!!
(oh, and if anyone has ANY ideas on how to dress an octagonal shaped window....??)

seriously seriously excellent idea - love it !! !!
ReplyDeleteI was just saying to another Mama today - why is it people these days seem to think kids need their own bedrooms!
I just went to read that post, their room looks brilliant!!
ReplyDeleteMy three have been sharing a room all this year... and not a big room, lets just say it fit three beds and 2 very narrow sets of drawers, barely any floor space...and guess what? They survived!! they compromised and it was the best idea ever.
Would do it again for sure. Now back to girls sharing and my son for the first time ever has his own room.
That is quite brave, but it will look great! For the octogonal shape window... can you add some shutters? In Britain they have them inside in Georgian houses. Should be easy (yeah right) to adjust some rectangular ones?

as an only child I always wanted to share a bed room!
ReplyDeleteYou could dress the octagonal window the same way you would a rectangular one by just ignoring the shape, or some DIY shutters.
glad we could inspire!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see it when it's finished :)
oh, and the window? i would just hang regular curtains up there---unless you want to keep the octagon shape? then i have nothing.
:)
Exciting - we're doing renovations at the moment too. With the octagonal window I think your only octagonal option is probably those weird fabric vertical style blinds but I'd go for a longer curtain rail and have curtains that open right back off the window so you can appreciate the shape when they are open and it just looks like a normal window when they are closed.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! You wont know yourself when it's finished and if your anything like me when it comes to renovating (or is that procrastinating) you'll wonder why you didnt do it sooner!
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
An idea for the window could be a family project to make an octagonal shaped quilt/curtain made of 8 fabric triangles. One for each child to chose or to decorate, one for you, one for your husband, and the one extra on top could represent the "Spirit" or a family united.
ReplyDeleteI love the wooden floors you have in your room! Think its great you are putting the kids in together, I'm not a fan of the 1 child per room thing. Looking forward to seeing your finished 're-shuffle'!
